D4CE TBL Transparent Blue Finish Review

I have used this guitar for some time now, the build and materials are poor quality and the buzz from the bridge is ruthless, no matter what I did it was still there.

My model came with a pick guard that was more ugly than effective and did not complement the abalone ring around the sound hole.

One major problem came when the time for a string change was due,am not sure what gauges were installed but they were no larger than point tens (.10), so I chose .10 and,,, big surprise, the whole bridge came of while tuning the guitar to half step down.

One good thing, hence one star, is the built in equalizer and tuner,,, THEY WORK!

Will try to fix the bridge, but really not worth the money.

Johnson JG-100 Acoustic Guitar, Blueburst Review

I purchased this guitar at the local music store. It a small "only 3 inches shorter than normal acoustic guitar" but very well built guitar for the money. The blue burst one I purchased is beautiful and the sound quality was much better than my friend's high dollar one. It has stayed in tune after 4 days of playing. I'm very well pleased with this purchase. Very much recommended!

Ernie Ball Music Man Stingray 4 Bass, Ice Blue Review

An awesome instrument, really blows away any bass I have ever bought before. Flawless design and detailing, there was not a single bad detail on this bass, the only thing being the fact that it is a bit heavy and you will feel that after some time playing it. It includes a case, made in China, but sincerely I don't think I would risk this "investment" by sending it on a plane's luggage compartment in this case, seems a bit flimsy to me, and I wouldn't use it as sturdy protection. The blue finish: beautiful, not very common, and although I originally wanted a see through finish, this color is just so scarcely seen that it is worth it. The actual color is different from the pictures seen here, so if you like the image posted on Amazon, you will love the actual color. An instrument that you sincerely can never part ways with, Musicman basses and quality control are simply excellent

Fender Blues Deluxe Complete Mod Kit - For Re-Issue amps Review

If you own a Fender Hot Rod series amp or the Blues Deluxe series, you need to check out the Fromel mods for your amp.

First of all, I am not associated with Fromel Electronics in any way.I'm just an old guitar picker who has been searching for that classic Fender sound I remember from the 60's and now I'm getting that sound out of my amp! I'm really excited about it and I want to tell the world! Here's my story if you care to read about it:

I bought a Fender Blues Deluxe from a guy on Craig's List about 6 months ago mainly because I wanted that clean, "tubey" sound of the old Fenders without spending a fortune on a classic amp.I was expecting the clean channel of the Blues Deluxe to give me that sound, but it just wasn't there.It sounded like the true Fender sound was trying to get out of the amp, but I couldn't make it happen.And the drive channel was uncontrollable and basically useless.

I decided to replace the speaker.I ended up putting an old, re-coned JBL K-120 in the amp.The K-120 is one of the cleanest sounding speakers ever made.It made some difference in the sound of the amp, but it still did not give me that classic Fender sound I was craving.It was becoming clear that the problem was somewhere in the circuitry of the amp.

In researching the problem, I came across the Fromel Electronics website and decided to try their mod kit for the Blues Deluxe.The kit cost $45 and came with illustrated instructions.I don't trust my soldering skills on a PC board, so I had an amp tech install the parts for me.(Cost $60)Since I got the amp back, I can't stop playing it!It's now the best sounding amp I've ever owned - and I've owned a lot of them!Including some of those classics.The clean channel just opens up and blossoms into a beautiful sound no matter how you have the knobs set!And the drive channel is now useful for some things.I'm not a big fan of the drive channel, but that's not why I bought the amp.However, it is way more useful than it was in it's stock condition.

I won't go into all the mods that were done.You can check that out at the Fromel website, but I would put the clean channel of this amp up against any of the boutique amps on the market today costing a small fortune.Mesa, Orange, Hughes & Kettner - any of them including the classic Fenders!

So here's how it all broke down money wise:1 used Fender Blues Deluxe from Craig's List - $350.1 re-coned JBL K-120 speaker - $125 (I got a good deal.) 1 mod kit from Fromel - $45.Tech services - $60.Total of $580 for a wonderful amp!A brand new Blues Deluxe costs $750 and won't sound nearly as good as this one!

As it turns out, I probably didn't have to replace the speaker to get the sound, but having a JBL in any amp is a good thing!And the K-120 (with the alnico magnet) only added another 5 pounds to the weight of the amp.

I've been playing and gigging for over 40 years and have had the opportunity to use just about every amp there is.The sound of my Blues Deluxe is now up there with the best of them.I highly recommend the Fromel mods to anyone who owns a Fender Hot Rod / Blues series amp.

PreSonus Tubepre Single-Channel Vacuum Tube Mic Pre Review

This is a great starter preamp.

When i first started recording i was using an akg perception 200 and tascam 122L. the 122 is a decent interface but is almost too transparent for its own good. All of my vocal recordings sounded lifeless and detached.

I purchased this inexpensive preamp and found that it certainly did add the subtle harmonics needed to liven up the tone.

I read online that many people thought that while this preamp is decent for the price, merely switching out the stock chinese vacuum tube can really enhance its tone. So I went to G***** C***** and purchased a replacement russian made groove tubes preamp tube and WOW, It really did make a huge difference!(the entire tube switching process took me about 4 minutes, i had never done such a thing before but it was very easy)

So while this is a nice little preamp, a simple $20 upgrade took the quality way above and beyond what you get out of the box.

The RG series of pickups is specifically designed to fit "dobro" style spider bridge resonator guitars. For biscuit bridge guitars, use the Schatten NR series pickups. For tricone resonator guitars, use the Schatten TC series pickups.Schatten has produced a resonator guitar pickup that met their exacting standards for faithful sound reproduction, ease of installation, great anti-feedback characteristics, and so much more.Innovative DesignUntil Schatten designed the RG-03, all resonator pickups were either stuck onto the side of the cone (which invariably caused feedback issues) or else required the replacement of large parts of the resonator assembly (not to mention a lot of expense and probable modification to the instrument). Seymour Duncan Woody XL Adjustable Pole Pieces Soundhole Pickup Review

This is the first acoustic pickup I've bought, and I'm very happy with it. It is nice and solid, well made, and sounds very good, no hum or feedback. I tried the cheaper Duncan pickup before and this one is a big step up. Really works well with electric strings on my humble Alvarez. I haven't tried adjusting the poles yet, but that was a big motivator for choosing this model.

Mahalo U-30BU Painted Economy Soprano Ukulele (Blue) Review

I actually got the black ukulele but they're all from the same company. This was my first ukulele ever and I kind of just bought it on a whim. Tuning was a pain (but this is the first time I have ever tuned a string instrument, so it's prolly just me) but the sound is great for just $25. The only real complaint I have is that your finger prints show up on the darker colors, but hey, it can't be perfect.
Great buy if you wanna find out if the ukulele is your thing!

The Complete Robert Johnson (Music Sales America) [Audiobook] [Paperback] Review

This book is NOT a companion to the box set recordings that feature all of Johnson's songs and alternate takes. This book has a partial arrangement every song, but not every take. The arrangements are not complete, and varies from song to song.
There is not much guidance on playing, just the transcriptions. This may leave many people puzzled about how to approach the tunes, especially with using a slide and the alternate tunings and fingerings.

Danelectro D-5 Fab Chorus Effects Pedal Review

I usually go with the higher end effect pedal such as digitech but being out of a job and needing to rebuild my musical equipment collection after it was stolen. I was VERY happy with this item. I paid $15 for it and it was well worth it. The effect it's self isn't spectacular but its it rivals some $60 or even $80 dollar pedals I have used. For the price I give it five stars but as a musician I must look at the pedal it's self and not the price and in my opinion it's a pretty descent chorus pedal! I give it four stars and until I am working again I think I will be buying more of these cheap danelectro pedals to help me get the effects I need for the music I write.

Levy's Leathers M7G-BLU 2-inch Grmt Leather with Delron Buckle,Blue Review

I got the M7G in black.I have one that I've used on my main guitar for quite some time.The strap works great, so I got another one recently to put on my bass.I lengthen it out to the full extent so I can play in a good standing position.It's super comfortable even with a pretty heavy instrument for a good deal of time.

One minor complaint is that the old strap is a better overall quality, having an extra layer of leather at the bridge end and slightly different composition.Overall, it's a very good and one wouldn't go wrong getting one.I still recommend it.I'd give 5 stars for sure if the new strap were equal to the old one.Disappointing, so minus one star on the review for the new strap not measuring up to what I expected based on the old strap.Levy's, learn from Coke...if you have a classic, don't mess with the formula.

Strange production this is.There's too much time showing full shots of the guy playing guitar, not an effective way of readingwhat the guy is playing.The best is when there's a close up of the slide on the neck.Duh.Shouldn't there be at least some explanation as to which strings are being used?The "instructor" seems to have more of an "I can play like Muddy, but don't expect me to show you how" attitude.Yea there's a little booklet, but if you don't know how to read tabs, you're even more confused.The production value is really lousy--looks like someone said, "I'll pay you a few bucks to sit here and play.We'll package it as an instruction video" with little thought as to whether you could really use this dvd.Yea, you'll pick up a few tricks, but it's pretty hard to watch it too many times because of all the stupid gab--"I have a picture of me when I was 18 trying to play this song."How many times can you sit through that one before you just say, I'd rather listen to Muddy and pick it up directly from the master.Lots of used copies available, and for good reason.

Dean Markley Pro Mag Plus Acoustic Guitar Pickup Review

I have an Alvarez RD8 acoustic dreadnaught and wanted to experiment with mixing my own playing and singing using an entry-level mixer, mike, and this device. It was sort of a "reality check" to see if anything sounded good enough to perform -- I'm still working on that part. The pickup was a pleasant surprise. It fit the sound hole perfectly though the cable is prone to getting in the way (that's the reason for the 4 stars). It's quite an experience to hear yourself "plugged in" for the first time. I'd recommend this pick-up to anyone who uses an plain acoustic and want to record or amplify their guitar. It's a good name brand, nice price, and of good quality constuction. I didn't experience and distortion or feedback problems and so far, the neighbors haven't complained either.

The Funkmasters-the Great James Brown Rhythm Sections (Manhattan Music Publications) [Paperback] Review

This is a very complete guide to the workings of one of the great R&B rhythm sections.The book is composed of 23 lessons examining the rhythm grooves for a selection of James Brown hits.Two CDs accompany the book.The lessons are arranged in chronological order by the date the songs were cut. Each lesson has printed material including an ensemble chart and individual charts for drums, bass, and guitar.Both staff and tab are given for guitar and bass.Historical and musical comments accompany each lesson.The CDs include four tracks per lesson: an ensemble track and the three individual instruments played at a slower speed.The mix is very clear and it is easy to distinguish the individual instruments in the ensemble track. While clearly intended as teaching tools, the tracks do have a feel that keeps the music compelling.
In terms of the level of difficulty, someone who didn't know this music might glance at the charts and conclude that the bass parts were (mostly) elementary, the guitar parts only slightly more difficult, while the drum parts combine fairly standard hand technique with advanced kick drum playing.Of course, this is misleading.It takes great timing to combine these parts in a way that has soul, and that's the great value of these lessons.A bass player (guitarist, drummer) trying to play this music has to really understand how he or she fits in with the other members of the ensemble.This is a very successful attempt to spell that out for the player.
One quibble: the organization of the historical material helps support the lessons, but makes it difficult to read as a straight narrative.One request: how about volume two with keyboard and horn charts?

DR Strings Peacock Blue - Extra-Life Blue Coated Bass 45-105 Review

If you think you might like the looks of blue strings on your bass - get these.They look wicked awesome.Very metallic blue finish - in the right light they almost seem to glow!you can't see the color from more than about 30 feet away, but they are still great.The reason I give them 4 stars (I would give 4.5 out of 5 stars if I could):they aren't the best-sounding strings I've ever had.They aren't bad, but they sound a little more muted than I would like.Missing a little bit of the mid-tone growl I like in some of my other strings (Rotosound, some Ernie Ball).They feel great for finger playing though due to the coating.
Try them at least once, maybe they're perfect for you.I'll definitely be keeping them on my bass for a while.

DR Strings Peacock Blue - Extra-Life Blue Coated Electric 10/52 Review

I bought these strings for my boyfriend (he LOVED them!) for his new guitar.He mentioned that only after a few hours of playing with a pick, the color was starting to flake off.The color's doing just fine on the neck of the guitar (where you wouldn't use a pick) and I really can't see where it's flaking over the body of the guitar.However, he can see it so I dropped down the star rating.They are still gorgeous strings, but just a head's up!
Also, the color is a bit different from what's on the outside of the box; it's slightly darker in real life.They have a pretty awesome shine, as well.

Epiphone Blues Custom Combo Amplifier, 15/30W, Tube 2x12" Speaker Review

I have owned and gigged with this amp for nearly 2 years. I play thru it exclusively, if I am even using an amp. I have a custom made guitar, so I can't help anyone achieve a well known tone. Sorry. But I can say that it is fairly easy to find your very own sound with this amp. It has alot of tone shaping choices in the form of the eq, and a switch that also acts as a frequency boost in a way. It is a switch that can make the 3 different bands of the eq act independently of each other, or not. For example, on windows media player, you can set the eq sliders where if u move one of them, the other frequencies are going to pull up a little all around that slider. Same highly generalized theory. Kinda. This amplifier has a great tube tone, and you can get a "pop" to some bass notes. Kinda funky. It is solid. Absolutely. And will get very loud. I've never gigged anywhere where I could even think of turning this up past halfway, on the 15w class A setting.

It is a trebly amp. And I play a trebly maple guitar. But I just turn the highs down a good bit on the amp, and roll a little tone off my pickups, i have an even sounding tone. The overdrive channel is fairly good, but it has always been way too trebly, even while playing a Black Beauty in the rythm position. Soooo, I would suggest either changing all the tubes, (they had to cut cost somewhere), or use your own overdrive. If u turn this amp up on the clean channel, it will have a very nice, very silky smooth breakup. It is a classic rock sound that is so much fun to play with. Or you can get really good blues tones out of it. The entire amp is tube powered, down to a tube rectifier and tube reverb.

This amp is better than most other amps I've ever tried. It is durable, reliable, looks and sounds great. If you are on a budget and want to get more than you pay for, at least try this amp. you won't be sorry. If you just take your time with it, you can find a lot of the tones you are looking for. I use a processor in front of it most of the time now, due to the style of playing i have, i need tons of effects. I run that signal into a tube preamp, then into the amp. It sounds wonderful, not at all digital sounding, and is really responsive to nuance. a worthwhile buy for sure.

Pros: sensitive response to playing, great tube sound, built like a tank, enough options for extra cab outputs, and really sweet breakup on the clean channel when turned up allowing for some serious tone.

Cons: no effects loop, trebly (but can be easily remedied by the amps own electronics), heavy as lead to tote (get casters), and cheap stock tubes.

All in all, i don't ever want to be without this amp. I'm sure there are better, but with all the options I have for finding the right sound for a song, i am not even interested in finding one. It does all I need, and what it does not do, I use 3rd party gear to accomplish.

Inside my wife's Martin guitar is a proud heritage of American craftsmanship.Her original Dean Markley ProMag Plus pickup did a fine job of allowing us to hook her guitar to our church's Behringer mixer, but with a nagging little problem:Hummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.At first we thought it was the lights, but even with every light switched off, the hum was still there, and the pickup was the source.

D'Andrea Locking Nylon Straps, Blue Review

You get what you pay for. This strap screams cheap and stays that way. It only fits guitars with narrow barrel buttons and the "locking" mechanism is nothing more than two pieces of thin plastic that "bend" around the barrel. One of mine broke off after a half-dozen uses. Even the fabric is the worst I've ever seen. If you like the concept of a locking strap, I strongly suggest you check out the Planet Waves version - it's miles ahead of this in design and execution. Fishman Neo-D Passive Soundhole Pickup - Single Coil Review

This is by far the best soundhole pickup I've ever heard. I was amazed at the clarity and richness it was able to pick up. The person who posted they had trouble fitting it in the guitar must have a weird-shaped guitar, cause it fits perfectly in my Martin D-28 and My takamine and my taylor. In fact, it sounds better than the onboard systems on the takamine and the taylor, and it is close to the l.r. baggs i have in the martin. Definitely worth the money.

Fishman B-II Acoustic Instrument Preamp Review

The B-II allows me to turn down the gain and volume on my battery powered bass amp by Pignose, the Hog-30.As a result, I'm now getting at least two more hours out of the amp's twin motorcycle-batteries.My passive Kala U-Bass (a ukulele bass!) sounds great with this device.The only gotcha that I've noted is that it is relatively easy to overdrive my 30-watt amp.It didn't take long to discover the sweet spot, however.The Fishman B-II preamp makes my unplugged Pignose sing longer now. I was a bit disappointed in these strings.My recent reference points for string sound were the Elixir Phosphor Bronze Lights and the John Pearse 600s (also phosphor bronze).The Cleartones sounded pretty good but, considering their higher price, I was hoping for more.I haven't had these on long enough to determine how long they will last but I'm just not thrilled with them.On a 1-10 scale, I would rate these a 6 (Elixirs = 9 and John Pearse = 8).Judge for yourself, but these are coming off my Taylor guitar as soon as I make a trip to the store for their replacements.

D'Addario Acoustic Guitar Strings Set, EXP 80/20 Lite Review

I've been using these strings for years, since they came out, and ordered them put on my new Collings ( "oh, good choice", they said ). They don't feel coated, unlike the nanonano ones, and last until I'm embarassed that I've forgotten to change them, about each 3-4 months. No, I don't bend or abuse them (Praise Band), and , yes, I keep the strings (and my hands) clean with appropriate materials ( it's a Collings, ok? ).Squeaking strings are usually more of a function of technique, than string build, but we all play differently and need to use was works best.BUT calling EXP's bad names, when it sounds like one lacks technique, knowledge (esp. tuning), common decency, or a combination of all 3, is past poetic license.The immature person with the wire stretched between the telephone poles must work for nanonano, or have wood where it shouldn't be, anatomically.

Levy's Leathers M7GP-BLU 2-inch Garment Leather Strap,Blue Review

Nice looking and feeling leather. Nice strap pin ends.But, the webbed backing is a little slippery and allows the guitar neck to dip.If it had a suede backing (like its cheaper Levy cousin I also bought) it would be A+.I plan to glue on a suede strip to solve this problem.

At the end of the book you have the songs with the chords alone.
Good if you like to do your own thing.
One more thing in it's favor the tabs are big enough...Most of the time (probably to save paper) everything is written much to small in many songbooks.

Agile AL-2000 Blue Flame Review

Starting to learn bass guitar (I chose the Silvertone LB11, which I have also reviewed) ended up making me realize two things.1: Bass is really fun, and a cool instrument.And 2: You can't play everything on it.So chances are, eventually you'll want a guitar like I did.But although I was pretty sure I would like learning guitar as well, I didn't want to spend a lot of money on a top-of-the-line model.Still, understandably, I wanted something solid.I asked around on Internet forums and Rondo Music's guitars were recommended.Searching them had me stumble upon the AL-2000 line, which seemed to come with nothing but positive reviews everywhere I looked.So I spent a few days deciding on the perfect color for me, and ended up picking the Blue Flame model offered here.

I've only had this guitar for a few days, and have much to learn.But sometimes it's easy to discern quality.The moment I took the protective foam lining from the body of the guitar, I knew I had picked the perfect one.And as soon as I plugged it in, I was assured.My friend who has played guitar for three years or so was around when I opened it, and he agreed that I had picked a great first guitar.

Everything is held together well, and the body feels extremely durable.The finish seems perfect, although the flame isn't as pronounced as I had thought.It still looks great, and is more of a sea blue in the middle, with the accented parts and pick guard being cream-colored rather than white like the pictures seem to portray.The metal-looking control knobs are more of a dark amber color and semi-see through.

The sound, even through the cheap-o amp I got in my bass package, is incredibly clean and crisp, with a light twang of an undertone depending on how you have the settings.I really don't think it could sound better.I strongly believe the Agile AL-2000 looks and sounds like a $700 guitar, so for the offered price it's a steal.

That being said, there is one main drawback--this thing is heavy.Quite heavy.Even more so than my bass, which is no lightweight.My bathroom scale puts it at around 11 pounds, but it feels like more than that.And it's all in the body.That weight is no reason to actually avoid buying the guitar, but it's something to be aware of.Also, the guitar was shipped in only the plain, semi-shaped case scrawled with the Agile logo, and held inside with a few formed pieces of cardboard and wrapped in a thin Styrofoam wrap.It arrived in pristine condition, but the method of packing is questionable.

Still, don't pass this up if you're looking for a high-quality, "budget" guitar.
