Inside the Blues, 1942-1982 [Paperback] Review

Inside the Blues, 1942-1982 [Paperback]Very well-written and fascinating overview of some of the key players in the history of blues guitar. Pithy biographical information, great resource lists of each player's crucial recordings, excellent examples throughout of guitar licks and phrases. This collection would be superlative if it contained a well-played CD of the hundreds of musical examples contained herein. It looks like the publisher is re-releasing this work with just such a CD in Fall 2006, but a lot depends on whether it sounds "canned" (like a lot of the Wolf Marshall stuff) or "inspired" (like the John Ganapes books). Dave Rubin is a good player, let's hope he puts some effort into the recorded CD to make this collection a truly five-star work.
